1

Create your account

First things first: get into the dashboard

⏱ 2 minutes
🌐 app.monstersms.ai/register
Tip: Use a business email, not Gmail/Hotmail. It helps with sender verification and builds trust with recipients.

You start on the Free plan with 100 messages (one-off sign-up bonus). No credit card required.

2

Set up your phone number

This is your sender identity. Do this before anything else.

⏱ 3 minutes
📱 Settings → Phone Numbers

Importing from Twilio?

Go to Settings → Phone Numbers → Import from Twilio. Enter your Twilio Account SID and Auth Token. Your number transfers immediately. No downtime, no number changes.

Required: Under the Australian Spam Act 2003, your sender identity must be verified. You cannot send messages without completing this step.
3

Upload your contact list

Import your opted-in contacts so you have people to message

⏱ 5 minutes
📋 Contacts → Import

CSV format

At minimum, your CSV needs a phone column with Australian mobile numbers. The smart field mapper handles most formats automatically.

phone,first_name,last_name,company
+61412345678,Sarah,Johnson,Bloom Florist
0412345678,Michael,Chen,Chen Engineering
61498765432,Emma,Williams,Williams Legal
Tip: Create segments (tags or groups) during import. For example, tag all contacts from a particular source so you can target campaigns later.
Compliance: Only import contacts who have opted in to receive SMS from your business. Purchased lists violate the Spam Act and will get your account suspended.
4

Send a test message

Send one to yourself before you send to customers

⏱ 1 minute
💬 New Message

Example compliant message

Hi Sarah, thanks for joining Bloom Florist! Show this SMS for 10% off your next order. Reply STOP to opt out.

Every commercial SMS must: identify your business, include an opt-out mechanism, and only go to consented recipients. Monster SMS handles STOP/opt-out automatically.

5

Create your first campaign

Send to your whole list (or a segment) in one go

⏱ 5 minutes
📨 Campaigns → New Campaign

Merge fields

Hi {{first_name}}, {{company}} is invited to our exclusive event this Friday!
RSVP by replying YES. Reply STOP to unsubscribe.
Tip: Schedule campaigns for 10am-2pm on weekdays for the best open rates. Avoid weekends and evenings unless your audience expects it.
6

Set up your AI auto-reply agent

Handle inbound SMS 24/7 without lifting a finger

⏱ 10 minutes
🤖 AI Agents → Create New Agent

Example system prompt

You are the customer service assistant for Bloom Florist, a flower shop
in Brisbane. You are friendly, helpful, and keep replies under 160 characters
when possible.

You can answer questions about:
- Opening hours: Mon-Sat 8am-6pm, Sun 9am-3pm
- Delivery: same-day for orders before 2pm, $15 flat rate within Brisbane
- Popular products: roses, mixed bouquets, orchids, wedding arrangements

For order issues or complaints, collect the customer's name and order number,
then say a team member will call them back within the hour.

Never make up information you are not sure about.
Tip: Be specific in your prompt. The more context you give the AI (prices, hours, policies), the better it handles conversations without needing human help. The current resolution rate for well-configured agents is around 94%.
7

Check your conversations inbox

See every conversation in one place, assign to team members

⏱ 2 minutes
💬 Conversations

The inbox shows both human and AI-handled conversations. If the AI escalated a thread, it will be flagged for human follow-up.

8

Integrate via API (optional)

For developers who want to build SMS into their own product

⏱ 10 minutes
⚙️ Settings → API Keys

Send an SMS via API

curl -X POST https://api.monstersms.ai/v1/send \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "to": "+61412345678",
    "message": "Your order #4521 has shipped! Track at: example.com/track/4521"
  }'

Node.js example

const response = await fetch('https://api.monstersms.ai/v1/send', {
  method: 'POST',
  headers: {
    'Authorization': `Bearer ${API_KEY}`,
    'Content-Type': 'application/json'
  },
  body: JSON.stringify({
    to: '+61412345678',
    message: 'Your order has shipped!'
  })
});

const result = await response.json();
// { "id": "msg_abc123", "status": "delivered", "credits_used": 1 }
Tip: Use the sandbox mode first. It simulates delivery without sending real messages or consuming credits. Flip to production when you are ready.

You are good to go 🎉
